We are celebrating a major milestone for Bienestar—groundbreaking for Cornelius Place, which has been 10 years in the making. The ceremony took place on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Thanks go to many of our partners, but Bienestar especially thanks former director Karen Shawcross, consultant Sharon Nielson, and many board members present, including Olivia Alcaire, Dan Hofer, Don Ruff, Cheryl Hilbert, Russ Peterson and others.

The multi-use Cornelius Place development will house the expanded Cornelius Public Library including much-needed community convening space, a YMCA center, and 45 affordable apartments for adults age 55 and older. The new library will provide a variety of services to support children, families, and seniors, including pre-reading and early education programs, student success programs, and adult education.

Cornelius Place is a joint project of the City of Cornelius, Oregon-Local Government, Bienestar, and BRIDGE Housing.

Architect: Scott|Edwards Architecture

General Contractor: Walsh Construction

Financial Partners: Oregon Housing and Community Services, Metro, Washington County, Housing Authority of Washington County, City of Cornelius, Enterprise Community Investment, Heritage Bank, Network for Oregon Affordable Housing, State of Oregon, State of Oregon Department of Administrative Services

The new library will be made possible by the donors who generously supported the Friends of the Cornelius Public Library Campaign.
