Resources and news to stay healthy

The Covid-19 news is mixed this week. September has been one of the deadliest months of the pandemic, with over 200 people dying from the virus in the first two weeks, while daily cases of the virus have fallen this month, for the first time since July. We mourn the ones we’ve lost. We hope that things will get better from here, even as we’ve all learned that the pandemic is unpredictable and we’ve seen these dips in case counts before. We still have to be cautious. Mask mandates are still in place and health experts and leaders continue to emphasize that the more people who are vaccinated, the more likely case numbers will continue to decline. 

The findings of New studies that followed 600,000 Covid-19 cases from April – July were released this month and concluded that an unvaccinated person is 11 times more likely to die from the virus and more than 10 times more likely to need hospitalization. So even while breakthrough cases do occur, they are less severe.

More Ways to Stay Healthy! From September 25 – October 16, Ventanilla de Salud, a collaboration between Centro Cultural and the Mexican Consulate of Portland, will offer free preventive health services, orientation, counseling, and referrals to community clinics at various events.
