Our Partners
Our many partners support the mission of Bienestar in a variety of ways…
Adelante Mujeres (www.adelantemujeres.org) is our newest partner. This fall we will work to engage some of our residents in the organic farming microenterprise training program so that they will gain the skills, land, and support that they need to begin small farm production operations.
Oregon Health Career Center OHCC (www.ohcc.org) is our partner in the AKA (All Kids Are) Scientists Program. Using curriculum materials and training from OHCC, staff and volunteers will roll out Science Club programs for kids in grades K-6 to harness their interest in science. A grant from Bonneville Power Administration (www.bpa.gov) has made this program possible at Bienestar.
Our partnership with Audubon Society of Portland (www.audubonportland.org) makes a summer nature daycamp possible for 48 resident children in grades 3-7. Explorador Camp received funding for 2008 from the Gray Family Fund. The Audubon Society partnership will also allow us to host three family nature outings during 2008 for our families.
Campfire USA (www.campfireusa.org) is our partner in planning new afterschool programming for resident children that will launch spring, 2008.
Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center (www.virginiagarcia.org) has a formal Memorandum of Understanding with us that formalizes our relationship with them in providing access to health care and services for our resident families without medical insurance.
The SALUD! program at Tuality Hospital (www.tuality.org) facilitates access to health care for seasonal migrant vineyard workers and their families, and advocated for the healthcare needs of the population and the general Latino community. We are pleased to partner with Salud! in working for access to health care for our resident families.
Bienestar became a partner with Oregon Food Bank in 2008 (www.oregonfoodbank.org). This new partnership will help us with snacks for our afterschool program, lunches for day camp students, and food for residents with food shortages.
Pacific University (www.pacificu.edu) has become our partner this year by granting us a Work Study allocation that will allow us to have Pacific University students working with us part time to help out with resident programs during the school year.
OCDC (Oregon Child Development Coalition) and the Migrant Head Start program has been our partner for many years. We regularly refer our families to their programs for children from infant to pre-kindergarten.

OHDC (Oregon Human Development Corporation) in Hillsboro has been our partner for many years in providing services for the migrant farmworker population. (www.ohdc.org)
We have worked with the Oregon Employment Department for many years, and are particularly pleased to have the participation of Mary Lewis on the Promotores Advisory Board to help us with resources, referrals and access to workforce development assistance for our residents.

Girl Scouts are active at Montebello Apartments, and we have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Boy Scouts to offer their programs at our properties.
Our partnership with Forest Grove School District (www.fgsd.k12.or.us) has meant helping families enroll their children in the new Summer Success Academy without fees. We are in planning discussions with them about new programming partnerships in 2008-2009.
We also partner with the Hillsboro School District (www.hsd.k12.or.us) because of the many resident children attend Hillsboro schools. We were particularly pleased in 2007-2008 to have teacher volunteers from the district helping us with the Homework Club and the Summer Reading Safari.
We are proud to be a partner in the Bridges to Housing project in Washington County (www.bridgestohousing.com). This is an innovative and holistic approach to the problem of family homelessness. We have pledged 15 apartments in Washington County for this program in 2008-2010.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Department, particularly through its representative crime prevention officer Lorenzo Rubio, has partnered with us for several years as we work together on crime prevention. Last year this work included presentations by Officer Rubio on gang prevention, drug and alcohol abuse, and the new DMV regulations.
Princeton Property Management Company (www.princetonproperty.com) has been our property manager for 21 years! The daily operations of the ten properties in our portfolio are under the direction of our portfolio manager Allison Brown and her staff, including Laura Flores, Jason Austin and Angela Tait.
Legal Aid of Oregon, providing legal assistance to low-income individuals, has been our partner for many years. Staff and Promotores refer families with legal issues to this agency with offices in Hillsboro. See (www.oregonlawhelps.org) for more information.
A new partner for us is the Walters Cultural Arts Center in Hillsboro (www.ci.hillsboro.or.us/wcac/). We discovered this year that one of our residents, Isaac Alonzo, is a gifted artist from Mexico. After curator Carl Annala saw his work, he scheduled a show of his paintings at the Walters Center in February of 2009. We will work together on the exhibition opening and outreach.
Through our partnership with Northwest Children’s Outreach, (www.northwestchildrensoutreach), we are able to provide clothing, infant care products, diapers, formula and many of the other necessities parents need for their children.
