Bienestar Offers Free Income Tax Preparation for Community

    Thanks to generous grants from the United Way of the Columbia Willamette and CASH Oregon, and to partnership with AARP TaxAide, Bienestar is offering free income tax preparation from February – April 15, 2010.  Part of an effort to support the Earned Income Tax Credit Campaign to help families who are eligible for the credit to collect it, the program at Bienestar is coordinated by Program Services Manager Gracie Garcia.

 

      Income tax preparation services are offered to the community at no cost by IRS- certified volunteer income tax preparers at Sunset Gardens Apartments at 951 SE 13^th in Hillsboro.  Services are available on Thursdays from 5-9 and Saturdays from 9-2 in the Community Room at Sunset Gardens.  Appointments are recommended, and can be made by calling Bienestar at 503.693.2937, x100.

 

          Bienestar is one of only two sites in the Portland Metro area offering services in Spanish, and offering to help people with obtaining ITIN numbers for free.  Bienestar staff members Gracie Garcia and Maria

Moreno, along with Promotores Marisela Iniquez and Javier Urenda, and board member Janice Morgan, all took 40 hours of IRS training to be certified as volunteer income tax preparers.  Promotora Luisa Manriquez and board member Enrique Contreras provide intake services to reduce waiting time for people.  Last year 103 families were served in this program.
